This year, I had the incredible opportunity to dive headfirst into the world of costume design, crafting dapper button-up shirts for none other than the iconic character, Scrooge. Not only did this venture mark my inaugural union hours with the esteemed local 887, but it also became a masterclass in the art and craft of clothing construction. Let me tell you, folks, creating those shirts was like navigating a theatrical tapestry – intricate, challenging, and oh-so-rewarding! As I threaded my way through each meticulous stitch, I found myself not just making costumes but weaving a story of tradition and craftsmanship.
From Stage to Street:
The experience ignited a spark within me – a desire to extend this newfound knowledge beyond the stage. Enter my partner, Will, the unsuspecting muse for my next sewing escapade. Armed with a Simplicity Pattern promising a “3-Hour” shirt, I dove in, quickly realizing that, like most sewing adventures, the journey may take a tad longer than anticipated. But hey, who’s counting when the result is a shirt crafted with love and a dash of stitching humor?
Speaking of alterations, I couldn’t resist putting my own spin on things, especially with the collar – a subtle deviation that adds a touch of personal flair. After all, where’s the fun in following patterns to the tee?
